Three casualties in A259 Newhaven collision

Emergency crews were sent to the scene of a collision on the A259 at Newhaven yesterday which involved three casualties.

The collision, which involved two vehicles, happened on the A259 near the swing bridge – closing the road.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 6.19pm, firefighters from Seaford and Newhaven were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A259 (Swing Bridge, Newhaven).

“Three casualties were handed over in to the care of SECAmb.

“Sussex Police were also in attendance and assisted with road closures. We left the scene at 7.57pm.”

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed three ambulance crews attended the scene and travelled to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Sussex Police said: “Police were called to Newhaven Swing Bridge at 6.13pm on Thursday (March 5), to reports of a collision between two cars.

“The A259 was closed in both directions while the vehicles were recovered. The road reopened around 9.20pm.”
