Residents have told the Gazette that around four or five vehicles have moved onto land on the Kingley Gate housing estate.

A West Sussex County Council spokesman said: “We are aware of a traveller encampment on private land in Littlehampton. We have been to visit the site and the landowner is aware and will be taking any appropriate action.”

They have now been moved on by the authorities.

In response to the incident, Lynnette St Quintin, sales director for Barratt Southern Counties said: “Following incidences earlier this year, we quickly increased security and restricted access to some areas of Kingley Gate.

“Due to the layout of the development where there are over 500 homes with large areas of open space for the benefit of our residents, we have been unable to completely block all access.

“We have responded quickly to recent events, ensuring eviction measures were promptly put in place and have also put in additional security measures.”
