Travellers set up camp in Hastings car park

According to reports, they moved into Rock-a-Nore car park on Saturday afternoon (April 3).

Hide AdOn its Facebook page, Munchies ice cream shop said it had to close as a result but reopened today (Tuesday, April 5).
A spokesman for Hastings Borough Council said: “We can confirm that a group of travellers moved into Rock-a-Nore car park around midday on Saturday (April 3).
“We liaised with Sussex Police and also contacted East Sussex County Council’s traveller liaison team.

Hide Ad“The travellers left of their own accord on the evening of Monday (April 5).”
Reports suggest the travellers have moved on to a field off Bexhill Road in St Leonards, near the recycling centre in Freshfields.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were made aware of a group of travellers arriving at a car park in Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings, on Saturday (April 3).

Hide Ad“Officers attended and engaged with the group. As the site is owned by the local authority, officers also liaised with Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council to conduct an assessment.
“The group moved on from the area on Monday (April 5).”
