The centre has been partially open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic with only food stores, the pharmacy in Boots, opticians and other essential shops allowing customers in.

With the news from the government that non-essential premises like high-street shops, department stores and shopping centres will be allowed to reopen on Monday June 15 as part of the easing lockdown measures, a number of stores will open in The Beacon.

Manager Bill Plumridge said, “Following the partial closure of The Beacon, due to the recent COVID-19 situation, we are delighted to announce the centre, in accordance with advice received by the NHS and Central Government and our own policies, will be re-opening on Monday.

“We have carried out a deep clean of the centre and are installing physical distancing signage throughout with guidance and reassurance, as the health and wellbeing of all our customers is paramount.

“Stores in the centre will start to re-open from Monday.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our shoppers, employees and the public for their continued support and understanding over the past few months and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Beacon to enjoy spending time at your favourite stores and, in due course, restaurants once again.”

Some stores will open on Monday with others following in the coming weeks. Opening hours are also likely to be changed.
