WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGE: Cockerel dumped in Pulborough dies after suffering injuries ‘consistent with cock-fighting’

A game-type cockerel had to be put down after it was found blind and with severe injuries consistent with cock-fighting, the RSPCA said.

The bird was discovered inside a grey, plastic pet carrier in Coombelands Lane on Friday May 1.

The RSPCA said he had cuts on his head, was unable to see, and was emaciated and very weak when found in the country lane.

RSPCA inspector Andrew Kirby said: “This poor bird had just been dumped in a horrific state. Blind, and on death’s door.

“Quite apart from how he got to be in this horrible state, it was utterly inhumane to just leave him like this to suffer and slowly die.”
