Footage from the scene shows large chunks of the structure in Old Shoreham Road, which has long been deemed an eyesore, come down.

Last year, the council gave permission for the house to be demolished and replaced with a five-bedroom home, plus two more to the rear of its neighbour.

However at a meeting in May, councillors approved a tweaked planning application for the site, which asked permission to replace the agreed five-bedroom home with two semi-detached four-bedroom homes.

A report to councillors noted that ‘the appearance of the site continues to detract from the character of the area’.
