Watch bizarre moment as rubbish collector throws away Horsham man’s wheelie bin

Roland Standley, 50, said he was flummoxed to discover one of his wheelie bins was missing on collection day.

But the mystery was solved after Roland, who runs a stables, checked CCTV footage to discover a binman emptied his bin, before throwing the entire thing away.

He said: “It was bizarre. I expected to see someone in a van pulling up [to steal the bin].

“I was shocked. It’s not what I thought I would see.”

In footage posted online, Roland’s video shows the rubbish collector empty the contents of the bin into the lorry. He then picks up the entire bin and throws it into the back of the lorry.

People on social media branded the act ‘shocking’, ‘unbelievable’ and ‘outrageous’.

Roland installed CCTV after one of his bins previously disappeared in a bid to solve the mystery.

After sharing the footage Roland said Horsham District Council have been in contact with him and have agreed to replace the bin.

A council spokeswoman said: “Our waste collection crews provide an exemplary service to the residents of the Horsham District, none more so than during the current pandemic.

“We are investigating this incident and apologise for any concern caused to the bin owner regarding this matter and can confirm that a new replacement bin is being delivered to his address as soon as possible.”
