On Sunday (August 2), a spokesman for Wetherspoon, owners of the pub, said a manager who was on the door 'monitoring for social distancing' was injured when a 'non-supporting concrete lintel fell from above the doorway' of the pub.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “It hit her arm between the shoulder and elbow and she also hurt her thumb.

“The fire brigade were called and they attended."

The pub was closed following the incident and the manager was taken to hospital for an x-ray.

Results suggest she suffered cuts, but no broken bones.

The pub has now been cleared to reopen.

Mr Gershon added: “The surveyor has attended site this morning and said the pub is safe to reopen and that has happened.

“We wish our manager a speedy recovery.”

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire said one appliance from Worthing attended alongside the technical rescue team.

They arrived at 7.30pm and left the scene at 8.13pm.
