Women's refuge wins thousands to transform community space

The money will be used to transform a nominated plot into a glorious vegetable garden.

TV Horticulturalist, Frances Tophill - who led the search with Higgidy to find the three prize-winning plots will offer Brighton Women’s Refuge her expert advice and support them in how to best use the money to turn their nominated patch into a vibrant veg garden.

Jo a Refuge Childcare worker at Brighton Women’s Refuge commented: “We are really grateful and excited about the opportunity to make a vegetable garden to be enjoyed by the women and children at Brighton refuge for years to come. It is especially appreciated in these difficult times. Thank you everyone for your votes and support”.

Frances Tophill said: “A huge congratulations to the Brighton Women’s Refuge, I’m really excited to work alongside the team to help bring their vision to life in how they want their community garden to look.”

The nationwide initiative, which launched following research revealing that 10 per cent of families would grow their own veg if a community garden was involved, aimed to get the UK enjoying veg more than ever before by growing their own vegetables, and adding a touch of positivity to the planet at the same time.

Camilla Stephens, co-founder of West Sussex-based Higgidy, added: “A huge congratulations to our three Seeds of Joy winners. We had thousands of votes and it was great to see so many people support their local communities. We’re excited to see what Frances will do with all three plots, watch this space.”

Higgidy has a team of 300 people and supplies pies to over 2500 supermarkets and stores across the country
