Members of the Viatores Lodge, based at The Charmandean Centre, donated the money to support the long-standing charity in its work for the benefit of patients, relatives and staff.

Robert Pickett, worshipful master, with his wife Angela Pickett, presented the cheque to Friends of Worthing Hospital chairman Janet Webber, who was accompanied by vice-chairman Malcolm Reed.

Mr Pickett said: “This money was donated by the members of the lodge during the current pandemic restrictions. Like other lodges in the province, we have not been able to meet face to face, so the lodge has had online Zoom meetings instead.

“These meetings have enabled the members to keep in touch and given them the opportunity to continue to donate money through virtual collections to support of charities in need of funds.

“The Friends of Worthing Hospital, previously known as the League of Friends, have for almost 60 years provided support and comfort for the wellbeing of patients, relatives and staff at a number of local NHS facilities.

“The charity has, thanks to generous donations, been able to provide much-needed equipment and enhance facilities which the health service cannot afford to purchase. This donation will help them continue their useful work supporting Worthing’s health services.”
