Sue McLean was a St Wilfrid’s volunteer and devoted to her family.

She died in the summer of 2019 after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour. Sue had a remarkable attitude towards her death, arranging a party to say goodbye to her friend and family. She described herself as being in a privileged position as she arranged her funeral and sorted her affairs.

Her grandsons George and Henry decided to take part in the St Wilfrid’s Hospice annual Starlight Stroll last September. The boys trekked six miles and have raised an impressive £1,160 for the charity which was so close to Sue and her family’s hearts.

Sue’s husband Alan McLean said, “ It was entirely their concept and idea to get involved in the project and they did a great job to encourage us old timers to participate in the wonderfully worthy cause that was so close to Sue’s heart.

“Nine family and close friends, plus Bridget the dog, managed the walk on the balmy evening of September 14 last year.

“It proved a rewarding but an immensely emotional evening for us all and we are so proud of the boys for their commitment and determination to make it happen.”
