PERMITS REMINDER AT WASTE SITES

East Sussex County Council and Veolia Environmental Services are giving a new year reminder to East Sussex residents about the permit scheme which is in operation at the county's household waste recycling sites.

The scheme has been running since September and means that residents who wish to dispose of their household waste using a van or commercial type vehicle need to have a specially issued entry permit in order to use the sites.

The system has been introduced by the council and Veolia Environmental Services in order to improve the service for site users and to prevent trade and commercial waste from illegally entering the sites. So far, well over 4000 permits have been issued.

Permits are free of charge and residents are allocated 12 per year. These are able to be used at any time during the year, with one permit needed for each visit.

Permits are available on application from East Sussex County Council at any time and more information can be found on its website at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/rubbishandrecycling or by phoning 01273 482310. Information is also available on the Veolia Environmental Services' website at www.veolia.co.uk/southdowns/hwrs and at all of the recycling sites.

Since the scheme began, the height barriers have also been opened at some sites for a trial period of three months. This has proved successful at most sites and, now that the trial period has ended, these will continue to open their barriers, meaning that high sided vehicles and vans bringing in household waste will be able to access them more easily.
