A person was killed by a train as it approached Plumpton Station last night (Tuesday, September 1).

The line was closed between Wivelsfield and Lewes as emergency services dealt with the incident, which happened just before 6pm.

It involved the 4.50pm Ore to London Victoria service, which was terminated at Plumpton. A full service resumed shortly after 7pm.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “It would appear to be a non-suspicious death. The person appears to have been on the track deliberately.”
