Preparations are well in hand for the annual Pestalozzi Christmas Concert at St Michael’s Church, Lewes, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, December 12.
The cost of admission is £8, payable at the door, or £7 by telephoning in advance to 01273 475172. This includes mince pies and tea/coffee. All proceeds go to the Pestalozzi International Village at Sedlescombe, near Battle, to support the students there, who are all from disadvantaged families in developing countries.
At the heart of the concert will be the acclaimed Pestalozzi chamber choir, whose members come together especially for this event. This year they will be under the direction of Roger Durston, former County Music Advisor, who later served as Principal at two prestigious musical establishments, the Wells Cathedral School and the BRIT School in Croydon.
Roger has prepared an exciting mix of carols for both the choir and the audience.
The concert will also feature Glyndebourne soloists Anne Mason, mezzo soprano, and her husband Geoff, bass. They will be remembered for their performances at the snow-bound concert two years ago!
Anne will be coming fresh from her role as Jezibaba in Dvorak’s Rusalka on the Glyndebourne Tour. They will be joined by well-known local organist and keyboard player, Nick Milner-Gulland.
Last but not least will be items by the students themselves that will reflect the multi-faith and multicultural ethos of the Pestalozzi International Village, including an authentic Tibetan folk duet, to be performed in national dress.
