Petition to save Ringmer’s old forge and Victorian cottages

A PETITION to save Ringmer’s former forge and two Victorian cottages is circulating in the village.

In the Lewes Local Development Framework to 2030, the Glyndebourne-owned site being considered for development includes the forge (Old Forge Pine and Oak) in Lewes Road, Ringmer, its forecourt, two cottages and the paddock and workshop site behind.

The petition calls on the owners to withdraw proposals for the historic buildings.

Maureen Jackson said: “We are trying to maintain the rural ‘look and feel’ of Ringmer and to keep the traditional road frontage for the future.”

She said many villagers were unaware that the buildings could be lost.

Copies of the petition are available to sign at McColls, Middletons, the Village Hall, The Green Man and the Pine Shop. A full statement is included.

A further opportunity will be available to sign on March 23 and 24 between 9am-12noon at the local shops.
