Pets pampered at Chrsitmassays Northiam animal charity

PET owners are estimated to have spent more than £100 on their beloved pooch or moggy this Christmas, according to a poll commissioned by leading pet charity Blue Cross, which has a rehoming centre in Northiam.

With an estimated 17m pet dogs and cats in the UK, it is possible the nation spent more than £1.7bn on giving their pets a Happy Christmas.

Other findings from the survey showed Owners in general will spend more on a present for their pet (£13.56) than for a grandparent (£12.74), aunt (£10.60) or uncle (£10.48).

It also showed cat owners were slightly more generous, spending an average of £106.29 on their pets compared to £103.51 for dog owners.

Claire Rowe, from Northiam Blue Cross, said: “We urge people to spare a thought for those unwanted and abandoned animals who don’t have a home at this time of year.”
