There were some wonderful arrangements at the Flower Festival held at Pett Church last weekend. With an overall theme of Blooming Baskets (with a twist), there were truly splendid displays, going under imaginative titles such as ‘ Vegging out”, ‘What a load of rubbish’, ‘A good drying day’, ‘Red, Red wine’ and ‘Everything stops for tea’.

There was a good turn out and visitors included Amber Rudd MP, who had sponsored an arrangement in memory of her late mother. The weather was reasonably kind, although it was a bit breezy and at least it didn’t rain!

Don’t forget the Barn Dance! It is being held at Pickham Farm on Saturday June 15 from 7:30pm. Tickets, £8 for adults and £5 for children are available at the Butchers Shop or contact Tim on 07734 282494.

Church Services on Sunday June 16 – Book of Common Prayer, St Nicholas, Pett Level at 8am with Richard Barron. There will be a Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday June 17 the Village Choir meets at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

POPP on Tuesday June 18 will feature Ryan, a singer. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Also on Tuesday June 18 Pett Parish Council will meet in Pett Village Hall at 7:30pm.

Chris and Robin Hutt are opening the garden at Fairlight End for the National Gardens Scheme on Friday June 21 and Saturday June 22, 11am to 5pm. Teas will be available on the lawn (in the Village Hall if wet) and there will be light lunches and a bar with Pimms, wine, beer, etc. Entry to the garden is £4 for adults and free for children.

For previous visitors there are plenty of new and exciting things to see, following extensive landscaping in the winter. In addition, there will be a large stall of homegrown plants. All proceeds go to charity, which this year will include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices and Pett Village Hall.

Last year dozens of friends and neighbours provided essential support for the event by baking cakes and delivering them to Fairlight End (opposite the Two Sawyers) before 9:30am on each day. Robin and Chris are appealing for this again and asking that any tins and containers be marked with the owners’ names for collection in the days after the event.

Also on Friday June 21, the speaker at the Pett W.I. meeting will be local bee expert Bob Bond, who will give a talk entitled ‘From Flower to Jar’. Non-members are welcome to come along and enjoy what promises to be a fascinating talk for just £3, which includes a delicious tea! The meeting starts at 2:30pm in Pett Village Hall.
