POPP on Tuesday April 2 will feature Annie Cryer – Thai Chi. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Why is it that no matter how hard you try, the sight of a freshly baked cake covered in rich butter icing, oozing strawberry jam is just impossible to pass by without taking a slice or two! Last month those attending the Village Coffee Morning were treated to Eve’s Chocolate and Cherry Swiss Roll and anyone who tasted it would agree what a treat it was.

What tempting treat will be on offer in April? To say nothing of the famous sausage rolls made by our dear butcher Phil! Why not come along and find out on Wednesday April 3? New faces are always welcome and the session lasts from 10am to 12 noon.

Also on Wednesday April 3 the Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

On Thursday April 4 Flicks in the Village will be showing the winner of the recent classic film poll – Breakfast at Tiffany’s (PG). No film better utilises Audrey Hepburn’s flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote’s novella. Hepburn’s urban sophisticate Holly Golightly, an enchanting neurotic living off the gifts of gentlemen, is a bewitching figure in designer dresses and costume jewellery. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbour, a struggling writer and “kept” man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). His growing friendship with the lonely Holly soon turns to love and threatens the delicate balance of both of their compromised lives. Taking liberties with Capote’s bittersweet story, director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod turn New York into a city of lovers and create a poignant portrait of Holly, a frustrated romantic with a secret past and a hidden vulnerability. Composer Henry Mancini earned Oscars for the hit song “Moon River” and his tastefully romantic score. Edwards’s elegant yet light touch, Axelrod’s generous screenplay and Hepburn’s mix of knowing experience and naivety combine to create one of the great screen romances and a refined slice of high-society bohemian chic.

The film starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form.

The Pett Level Rescue Boat Service is an independent rescue facility, which depends solely on fundraising, donations and sponsorship and gets no financial assistance from either Government or the RNLI. It is run solely by 25 volunteers, ages ranging from 15 to 85 who dedicate their time to assist the local community without financial reward. There are no paid staff. The old boathouse requires updating after 40 years and the organisers are looking for donations, as the refurbishment will cost £15,000.00.

The intention is to commence the upgrading this Spring/Summer, and the organisation will then be able to offer the crew of volunteers updated boathouse facilities, incorporating a crew room, kitchen and a new toilet block. Previously the crew had to use an outside toilet at a local coastguard cottage. Your help will enable this organisation to continue to save lives along the hazardous Pett Level coastline and surrounding inland lakes and flooded areas.

Activate held their A.G.M at The Cove on March 13, which was fairly well attended. It had had a very successful year, especially with Alice Tigwell leading the club and the grant from Lloyds, which has transformed the clubhouse. You will all have chance to come and see the improvements on Saturday April 20th, when there will be a garage sale and car wash with refreshments. This will start at 2pm. Also put May 18 in your diary as the youngsters came up with the idea of holding an afternoon tea party at Fairlight Village Hall. Details will follow.

Activate is 15 years old this May and so they will be celebrating. A special event will be held on July 11 for members old and present and July 12 will be an event for staff and management. As always thank you to all who support the club.

Please note that the Village Choir will be meeting on April 15, (not 8) and 29 at Pett Chapel.
