Did you feel the earth move last week? Well local residents certainly did! Houses shook in Pett Level, Pett and Guestling and people wondered where the earth shaking noise was coming from. After the involvement of Amber Rudd MP, as well as Rother District Councillor Robin Patten, we found out. As has been reported before it was coming from the MoD ranges at Lydd, where we learnt that soldiers were learning how to safely detonate Improvised Explosive Devices before going to Afghanistan. In addition, the explosion of WW2 ordnance was also taking place. This was responsible for the particularly loud bangs, exacerbated by the weather conditions, low cloud cover and wind direction. By the end of the week the noises had stopped.

Did you know that a new Toddler Group has been formed? It is called Pett Waddlers and is open for all parents, grandparents and carers and their little ones from 0 to school age. Meetings will take place in the Methodist Chapel hall every Friday from 1:30 to 3pm.The children can enjoy toys, craft, music and stories together with a drink and a biscuit. There will be tea for the carers. If you want to find out more, just go along on the day.

Church Services on Sunday March 10 – Mothering Sunday – Meriel and the Methodists, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am.

On Monday March 11 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

POPP on Tuesday March 12 will feature a Red Nose Day celebration with Annie Cryer. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

On Friday March 15 the speaker at the Pett W.I. meeting will be Bel Deering from the RSPCA who will talk about our local wildlife rescue centre Mallydams. Non-members are welcome to come along for just £3, which includes a delicious tea! The meeting starts at 2:30pm in Pett Village Hall.

Also on Friday March 15 Pett Nats Chairman John Goodman will be giving a talk on ‘Galapagos 1974’. The meeting starts at 7:30pm in Pett Village Hall. Visitors are welcome at £2 each.

The Friends of Pett Churches will be holding their next fund-raising event, a jumble sale, on Saturday March 16 at Pett Village Hall from 1:30-3pm. Jumble can be brought to the hall after 9am but no electrical goods or furniture please. Offers of help on the day, cakes and raffle prizes will be very welcome.

The Friends exist to raise money for the churchyard and church buildings and raised a very much-needed £4000 last year from subscriptions, donations, two jumble sales and a Christmas Fair. A good turnout for the first jumble sale of the year would be very much appreciated.
