The Jumble Sale held on Saturday October 20 raised £610 for the Friends of Pett Church, which was a significant improvement on last year’s sale. A big thank you goes to everyone who helped make it a success.

Don’t forget the visit of our local PCSO, Richard Birchard, who will be holding a surgery in Pett Post Office on Friday October 26 from 10:30am.

On Saturday October 27 there will be an important meeting in Pett Village Hall from 10:30am to 12:30pm about the Ridge Fire Station. On September 13 East Sussex Fire Authority announced their intention to downgrade the Ridge Fire Station, which will result in fire engines taking an additional 5 minutes to reach the villages of Pett, Guestling, Fairlight and Icklesham.

Church Services on Sunday October 28 – Holy Communion conducted by the new Rector Richard Barron. The service at St Mary and St Peter, Pett will start at 11am and Richard is anxious to meet as many Pett people as possible.

Don’t forget the Halloween Bonfire at Pett Village Hall, also on Sunday October 28, starting at 6:30pm so bring your children along for a spooky evening!

The Village Choir will meet again on Monday October 29 at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

POPP on Tuesday October 30 will be providing its own entertainment. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

The Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level on Wednesday October 31. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

On Thursday November 1 Flicks in the Village will be screening War Horse (12). Directed by Steven Spielberg and set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows Joey’s the extraordinary journey as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets – British cavalry, German soldiers and a French farmer and his granddaughter – before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse – an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. War Horse is one of the great stories of friendship and war – a best-selling book by author Michael Morpurgo, it was turned into an award-winning stage production and now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history. You will need box of hankies for this one!

The film starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form.
