Pett and Pett Level

Pett Parish Council: At the Council meeting held on Tuesday May 19 Judith Dean was elected Chair and Mike Wilkins was elected Vice Chair. This was the first meeting of the Council with 5 new councillors and the Chair pledged good communications with the residents of both Pett and Pett Level.

The items in Public Time included the following;

East Sussex County Council: Cllr Maynard reported that the Link Road was due to be completed at the end of the year. It will deliver economic benefits and ease traffic problems.

Rother District Council: Councillor Saint reported that the new Speedwatch scheme had recorded 700 drivers as over the speed limit during April and May. He added that the toilets at Pett Level may become an issue and that he will report back all he can find out to the Council.

A suggested donation to the Methodist Chapel in view of the set up costs for the Post Office.Concerns about the bank by the Rustic Path, which makes leaving the Recreation Ground dangerous.

Church Services: On Sunday May 31– Benefice Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 10:30am, Kay Burnett.

Also, don’t forget the Rogation Walk, which starts from St Mary and St Peter Church at 3pm,

Village Hall Management Committee: This committee will meet on Monday June 1 at 7pm at Pett Village Hall. The meeting is open to the public so please come along and give your ideas and views on the hall.

Village Choir: Also on Monday June 1 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

Pett Older People’s Project: On Tuesday June 2 POPP will feature John Taylor with a talk and slides on Pett Village, which is highly recommended! The session runs from 10:30am to 2pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Village Coffee Morning: The Village Coffee Morning will be held on Wednesday June 3. Starting at 10am Sally and Helen will be ready to welcome you with the very best coffee, tea, biscuits and yummy, yummy cakes, not to mention Phil’s famous sausage rolls!

Flicks in the Village: on Thursday June 4 Flicks in the Village will be showing The Theory of Everything (12). Starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, is the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, and Jane Wilde the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.

Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children. Over the course of their marriage as Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

So why not come along and see this critically acclaimed film? It starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form.

Pett Level Naturalist Society: Pettnats are having two walks in June. The first is on Saturday June 6 when Trevor Buttle will lead a walk around the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve from 10am to 12 noon. All those interested can meet at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve Car Park kiosk.
