Pett Parish Council: At the meeting of Pett Parish Council held on Tuesday February 17, the items raised in Public Time included: Rother District Council’s budget, Rye Swimming Pool not closing, election of Parish Councillors, the non-attendance of the PCSO at any meetings in the last year and Speedwatch.

Matters covered by the Council included toilet facilities for the Flower Show, Pett Allotments, the future of Pettnet and the re-siting of the Post Office in Pett Methodist Chapel.

Pett WI: At the meeting held on Friday February 20 members sampled a variety of teas from white through green to black with the informative and interesting Peter Wiggins of The Proper Tea Company. Members also celebrated the forthcoming 90th birthday of one of their most loyal members, Jean Osborn. Jean was signed up for Pett WI by her mother at the age of just 15, which at 75 years must make her one of the longest serving members in the country!

Church Services: On Sunday March 1 – Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am, Merial Deasy & Kay Burnett; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

Village Hall Management Committee: This committee will meet on Monday March 2 at 7pm at Pett Village Hall. The meeting is open to the public so please come along and give your ideas and views on the hall.

Village Choir: Also on Monday March 2 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

Pett Older People’s Project: On Tuesday March 3 POPP will feature Sounds of the 40’s and 50’s. Antonella Bruce will also be on hand to give head and shoulder massages. And if that wasn’t enough, Eye Concern will be there, servicing and cleaning glasses. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Village Coffee Morning: The Village Coffee Morning will be back on Wednesday March 4. Starting at 10am Sally and Helen will be ready to welcome you with the very best coffee, tea, biscuits and yummy, yummy cakes.

Flicks in the Village: on Thursday March 5 Flicks in the Village will be showing

Mr Turner, starring Timothy Spall in a career-defining role. The film is directed by Mike Leigh and explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).

Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies.

Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.

So why not come along and see this critically acclaimed film? It starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form.
