PC Fielder gave the Council a Priorities Report and said that there had been no burglaries in Pett since May 21 and no incidents of anti-social behavior and vandalism from the same date. People experiencing anti-social behavior should call 077876 85725, where a dedicated team of officers is on hand to deal with such cases.

PC Fielder also told the Council that 10 speeding checks had been carried out in Pett and Pett Level since April this year. He added that the new PCSO for our area was Richard Birchard. Richard is a retired police constable who has worked at Horsham, Gatwick, Rye, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Iden. He has been in firearms, VIP and Royal Protection, as well as time as a rural beat officer. Pett residents will have an opportunity to meet Richard when he holds a surgery in Pett Post Office on October 26. More details nearer the time.

In answer to a question from a member of the public on the issue of parking on pavements, PC Fielder said that whilst such acts were not a criminal offence, Rother District was the one district in the Sussex Police area that had the discretion to make the owners of such vehicles move them, on the basis that they were causing an obstruction.

Gary Potter was a technical Assistant from East Sussex County Council and alerted the Council to the closure of the road from Ore, through Fairlight to Winchelsea Beach that will take place from September 10 for 5 nights from 7pm to 6am each night. Further details are in Pett Parish News.

The issue of overgrown hedges, which obscure drivers’ view of the road, particularly near the bottom of Chick Hill, was raised by the Council Chairman with both Mr Potter and with Cllr Carl Maynard (ESCC). Whilst Mr Potter said he would take this back to his department, Cllr Maynard asked for a formal request for action to be made by the Parish Clerk.

Don’t forget the art exhibition on Saturday September 1 in the new Boathouse at Pett Level. The exhibition will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm and will raise funds for Pett Level Rescue.

On Tuesday September 4 POPP will feature Comfort Plus Mobility. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

The Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level on Wednesday September 5. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.
