Pevensey Junior Cricket Club is celebrating after winning the Sports Achievement award at the SPARK Awards 2014.

The event was staged for the third year by SPARK – a network for young people’s organisations in East Sussex.

There were around 400 guests in attendance at the event which celebrates the dedication of voluntary and community groups supporting children and young people in East Sussex and the talent and commitment of the young people themselves.

The junior cricket club was recognised for its work developing a thriving junior section with an inclusive ethos, bringing together young people from Eastbourne and the surrounding villages to participate and learn the game.

Labour Parliamentary candidate Jake Lambert attended the evening and is a club member. He said: “This award is fantastic recognition for the young people and coaches involved at Pevensey.

“Pevensey is a real community club, providing opportunities for young people to participate and enjoy the game, as well as offering young coaches from our vibrant University of Brighton campus in Eastbourne experience in the local community.

“This success is testament to the positivity of the volunteer coaches and parents who make Pevensey such a welcoming place to play cricket.”
