Phone cheat fails to con Littlehampton residents

FRAUDSTERS were unable to deceive vigilant residents in Littlehampton.

A total of four people had been targeted by the same suspected telephone scam on the same day, last month.

The first call was made to a homeowner in White Horses Way, on March 19. The male on the phone claimed to be a member of the serious fraud squad from Hammersmith and was calling in relation to her bank card.

The woman stressed she would not offer any bank details over the phone and the conversation ended.

Another woman, this time in Fastnet Way, was targeted by the same scammer. Again, she refused to offer her details over the phone and informed her bank about the call.

Likewise, a similar call was received by residents in Mantling Road and Roman Acre.

On both occasion, the homeowners challenged the supposed fraud squad member – who promptly ended the call.

Police repeated advice and urged people to never give out their bank details over the phone.

Those who receive similar, unsolicited calls, should ring 101.
