Photo competition

Grab your camera and get snapping in East Sussex County Council's annual photography competition.

That's the message from organisers who have made 'Reading the world around you' the theme of this year's competition.

The Council wants people to look through their camera lens and show the books, words and letters that they pass every day.

Words are everywhere: newspaper headlines, packaging, text messages, songs, road and shop signs, and competition organisers want photographers to tell a story through their pictures.

The competition has two categories - 18 years and over and under-18 years. Prizes on offer include canvas prints, framing, vouchers and magazine subscriptions. The prizes are being sponsored by Eastbourne Framing Centre, Spectrum Digital Printing Services, Black & White Photography Magazine, Photoworks Magazine and Jessops.

Residents who think they could be the next David Bailey have three months to find that winning shot which could see them gaining a prize. The deadline for entries is Monday 3 August 2009.

More information about the competition, how to enter and terms and conditions, can be found online at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/photography or by telephone on Lewes (01273) 336173. People without access to a computer can use Internet computers available in all main libraries free of charge.
