Photographers capture spirit of The Stade

Images of three dead fish rotting on the beach, a battered blue bench and a black and white shot of the Harbour Arm have been chosen as winners of a photography competition.

Hastings Borough Council challenged local snappers to capture the essence of The Stade for the recent contest.

And the three winners were chosen by the judging panel this week after the local authority was inundated with hundreds of entries.

Entrants were encouraged to send in photos best summig up their personal experiences of the historic fishing district of the Old Town.

The leader of the council, Councillor Jeremy Birch, was joined on the judging panel by Yasmin Ornsby, chair of the Stade Partnership, and writer and photographer Grace Lau.

And after a morning of deliberation they decided on Sue Barnes (Blue Bench), Sue Reid (The Quota) and Steve Williams (Harbour Arm). Each will receive a Nikon Coolpix S3000 camera and have their work displayed at the Shipwreck Museum, Blue Reef Aquarium and the Fishermen's Museum throughout October and November.

Another 50 photographs were chosen to form the rest of the exhibition.
