Pick a name for the Link Road

Rother District Council received dozens of suggestions of possible names for the £113 million highway, currently under construction by East Sussex County Council.

The district council, which is responsible for naming the new road, is now asking the public to vote on 17 potential names, which will be whittled down to a shortlist of five.

A final decision will be made by the district council’s planning committee at its meeting on July 17.

Cllr Paul Osborne, district council cabinet member for strategic planning, said: “We received an excellent response to our appeal for possible names and this is the next step in naming the new road.

“There are a wide variety of different suggestions, many of which draw upon the rich history and geography we are blessed with in this area.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to take this opportunity to make their mark on a road which visitors and residents will be using for many years to come.”

The names people are being asked to vote on, which have been selected to avoid clashing with existing road names , are: Asten Valley Way, Combe Valley Way, The Combe Valley Link, Combecutting Lane, King Harold Way, King William’s Way, Kingsway, Marsh View Way, Pilot Alfred Davies Way, Pilot Davies Way, The Old Railway, The Spitfire Link, The Valley Bypass, Viaduct Cross, Viaduct Road/ Way, Viking Way and Worsham Valley Way

The closing date for votes to be received is Friday July 11.
