PICTURE UPDATE: A27 at Arundel to remain closed "for some time"

THE A27 at Arundel is expected to remain closed for at least two more hours, due to a lorry carrying cars for scrap overturned on the the Crossbush junction.

It happened just after 6.15am tiday (July 1), and both the A27 and A284 Lyminster Road are closed in both directions. Police have advised drivers to avoid the area, and diversions are in place.

The driver of the 25 tonne lorry, a Hampshire man in his 50s, was cut from the truck by West Sussex Fire and Rescue before being taken to Worthing Hospital with serious, though not life-threatening, injuries.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The highway authority are clearing up the carriageway itself and specialist haulage contractors will remove the vehicle and contents, but this may take a few hours.

"Drivers should avoid the area this morning if at all possible and follow diversions. Regular updates will also go out on local radio."

No other vehicles were involved.
