Findon Village Gardens Association has enjoyed one of its best summer flower shows.

Findon Village Hall was packed out on Saturday for the annual summer show, featuring flowers, floral art, vegetables, fruit, cookery, handicraft and photography.

Committee member Maureen Bowen said: “It went very well. It was a beautiful day, we were so lucky.

“The turnout was excellent. I think it was one of our busiest shows and the weather had a lot to do with that.

“The entries were all up to the usual high standard.”

Maureen took home several prizes herself, including the Alan Cave Cup for her mixed vase of garden flowers, judged the most outstanding exhibit in the flower section.

Morton Woodburn, 15, the youngest member of the association, was entering for the first time and won a salver for his onions.

Maureen said: “He was absolutely over the moon, he was ecstatic.”

The Banksian Medal, awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society to the competitor who wins the largest sum of money across the vegetable, novelty, soft fruit and flower sections, went to Brenda Cox.

During the afternoon, the tea ladies were kept busy making cream teas and the Pimm’s stall sold out quite quickly, Maureen said.

She added: “We would like to say a big thank you to all the businesses in Findon and Findon Valley because they donated the prizes for the raffle, which was really very good this year.”

Cup winners were Morton Woodburn, Graham Gostick, Betty Lewis, Maureen Bowen, Norman Allcorn, Sue Line, Shirley Hobden, Jill Light, Tess McCormick, Monica Eastabrook, Susan Bell, Brenda Cox, Pam Howard, Evelyn Stanford and Pauline Holderness.
