PICTURES: Soldiers attend Remembrance Day ceremony with home for disabled veterans

On Friday morning, 20 soldiers from 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery based at Thorney Island near Chichester, accompanied The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home to the Armistice Day Ceremony at the War Memorial in Worthing.

The soldiers, along with representatives of the home, local dignitaries, including Mayor of Worthing Sean McDonald, and local military associations attended the ceremony to honour those members of the armed forces who have been killed in conflict.

The Worthing-based Queen Alexandra Hospital Home, founded in 1919, is a national military charity, which offers nursing and rehabilitation services to physically disabled ex-Servicemen and women of all ages.

Following the ceremony, the soldiers, who are dedicated supporters of the charity, came back to the home and were greeted with cheers and applause from residents and staff.

They also spoke with residents, some of whom are veterans of the Second World War.

Head of fundraising at the home, Elizabeth Baxter, said: “Armistice Day is such an important day in order for us to remember those we have lost in conflict. We are very grateful to Regimental Sergeant Major Martin Hughes, Staff Sergeant Vance Walker and their regiment for taking time to attend the ceremony with us, and to visit the residents of Queen Alexandra Hospital Home.”
