PICTURES: The Music Man Project sets up school in town

The Music Man Project, which aims to develop the musicality in everyone regardless of their learning difficulty or special educational needs, launched its regular programme of Saturday afternoon music schools in Bexhill recently, and thanks to the British Legion Club in Little Common, it has found the perfect place to practice in a fun and relaxed environment.

The project was founded by musician and composer David Stanley in Southend, Essex, and Bexhill resident Leisa Jones became aware of the project when her brother, who attended this school, showed her a video of the session.

She was so impressed, she called David Stanley and asked if she could start a school in Bexhill.

Lesia said: “We have got off to great start and our Saturday afternoon sessions are thriving.

“Our students are very talented and are making excellent progress on the wide range of instruments made available to them through the Mencap Charity.”

Leisa runs the school with her daughter Cashmeira.

Project founder David Stanley said: “I am delighted with the progress being made by Leisa’s students.

“She is a talented musician and a dynamic teacher and we are honoured to welcome her into The Music Man Project family.

“The Bexhill class has already begun to learn our repertoire, so in time they can join other musicians from our centres in London, Essex and Suffolk for joint musical performances.”

Leisa is already working on plans to expand the lessons to Saturday mornings as well as the afternoon session.

She said: “We are already rehearsing for our first concert, which is fantastic.”
