PICTURES: Women's World Day of Prayer

The service was written by the Christian women of the Philippines and translated into 1,00 different languages to be used throughout the world.

The day of prayer was for everyone, not just for women and services in the area included a gathering at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bognor Regis, Christ Church in Chichester, and Midhurst Catholic Church.

Stories recounting hopes and fears were told and there was time to reflect on a thought-provoking artwork designed by Rowena “Apol” Laxamana-Sta.Rosa, illustrating contrasting scenes.

The Women’s World Day of Prayer can trace its origins back to the 19th century. Each year, it is prepared by a different nation and prayers will be said across the whole world on the same day, starting at sunrise over the island of Samoa and continuing until sunset off the coast of America Samoa.
