Worthing Model Railway Club had a successful annual exhibition at the weekend '“ and is already planning something bigger and better next year.

The exhibition attendance numbers were slightly down on previous years but the club was not too worried.

Chairman Peter Denton pointed out: “After a steady increase on the previous five years, we really didn’t ought to complain. For once, I think the good weather must be blamed.

“Nevertheless, the club made a surplus thanks to the dedication of its members and we are already planning for a bigger and better exhibition next year.”

It was the club’s 52nd annual model railway exhibition and the sixth at its now established venue, Durrington High School.

Mr Denton said there was something for all enthusiasts, no matter what gauge, era or location they modelled.

Among the varied layouts are the usual OO gauge, N gauge – including the club’s own highly-regarded Nine Mills, O gauge and a continental HO gauge.

A first this year was the club’s new layout for the children, called Becket.

Mr Denton explained: “We this year baptised a new layout made specially to allow children to run Thomas the Tank Engines, always a popular sideshow.”

The incomplete layout Arun Vale, inspired by Arundel and the surrounding area, was on show to illustrate the continuous development of new layouts and work in progress. Mr Denton said this layout will be fully operational at next year’s show.
