THE WEATHER: Isn't it wonderful summer has come at last, but for how long? It reminds me of what I think I remember as the long, hot, happy days of childhood summers. I know some people are not as happy about it as I am, but how much pleasanter than a winter's cold. I always remember, in Mexico, seeing quite austere dwellings with happy inhabitants, and reflecting that they, at least, would never be subject to hyperthermia.

ANGER: Why is there so much anger and resentment in the world? Where are the good news stories? It seems that news, in whatever medium, be it newspaper, TV or radio, is totally overshadowed by gloom and despair by yet another atrocity happening in some part of the world. Even on home ground people seem to be overly aggressive and one is now surprised by a display of good manners rather than as, in the past, one would be surprised by the bad.

Let’s all start being nicer to each other. It doesn’t cost anything and the smiles one will get back will make it worthwhile.
