Pier anglers are to face crackdown

MEASURES to prevent people fishing from the main walkways of Worthing Pier look set to get the green light.

The borough council is proposing that fishing from the main deck is prohibited and that in future only the landing stage where boats tie up should be used for the pastime.

To help enforce the proposal, and to monitor anti-social behaviour such as tombstoning from the pier, CCTV linked to the beach office is being considered, possibly with a speaker system.

New signs highlighting the designated fishing area will also be put up.

A council report says: "The main concerns are that fishermen leave their rods across the deck, which makes it difficult for walkers to pass."
