Broadcaster Piers Morgan cheered on cricketers in Newick this weekend as the village team took on Ringmer.

Mr Morgan, who was born in the village and went to Chailey School near Lewes, returned to the village to see Newick’s 1st XI play Ringmer this Saturday (June 18).

Newick won the toss and elected to field before bowling Ringmer out for 99 in the 48th over.

Newick’s Matt Sawyer took four wickets for 25 in his 15-over spell while Joe Waylett took four wickets for 23 runs from 8.3 overs.

Murray Barnett was Ringmer’s top scorer, securing 30 runs.

Newick passed their score in the 32nd over with top scorer Scott Warren securing 42 runs.
