Pink house prompts proposal from council

WORTHING Borough Council has proposed measures to protect buildings within three conservation areas in the town, after an historic lifeboat house on the seafront was painted pink earlier this month.

If approved at Wednesday’s council planning meeting, the Article 4 (2) Direction will prevent inappropriate development of buildings in The Steyne, South Street and the seafront and hinterland.

The proposal would enable the council to retain some control over the colour scheme of buildings and to grant permission subject to appropriate conditions.

A council officer’s report said there was a need for the proposal following the repainting of the Wandering Goose pub back in November, 2013, and the old lifeboat house in Marine
Parade.

However, Article 4 Directions cannot be applied or imposed retrospectively to any works that have already been carried out.
