Pioneering surgery saves man's life

PIONEERING surgery, in the form of a £100,000 artery transplant, carried out at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, has saved a 74-year-old Shripney man's life.

The challenging operations '“ in which two teams of surgeons spent nine hours using human tissue sent from the USA to replace a damaged aorta '“ was the first of its kind in this country.

The patient, John Young, of The Marigolds, has spoken to the WSG about the unique live-saving surgery that has enabled him to be back home and living life to the full. "I want to thank everyone at St Richards.

Because of their skills, I am back home and living life to the full. I will be forever grateful to St Richard's.
