Plans to build 280 homes in Hailsham will come under the spotlight at a public exhibition today (Friday May 22).
Wates Developments and Persimmon Homes are behind the blueprint to build the homes on land east of Battle Road to the north of Burfield Valley.
The developers say the plans are for 280 “high quality homes”.
The exhibition will be held in the Civic Hall, Council Offices, Vicarage Lane, on Friday May 22 from 3pm until 7.30pm and developers say it will provide the local community with a valuable opportunity to view and discuss the proposals with members of the development team.
The proposals have come forward for the sustainable site following the site’s identification in Wealden District Council’s Core Strategy and Strategic Allocations documents as suitable for 308 new homes.
The next step will be for developers to submit an outline planning application for the homes to Wealden District Council’s planners and if that is approved, the design and appearance of the properties will be considered.
A spokesperson for Wates Developments and Persimmon Homes said, “We would encourage anyone who has a question or is interested in the proposals to come along to discuss the plans with us.
“We have gathered an extensive amount of information on the site already and really want to find out the thoughts of local people.
“Wealden District Council has identified the site as suitable for much needed new homes in the town; it is in a sustainable location close to local schools, services and the town centre.
“It would provide a natural extension to Hailsham and would be sympathetic to existing homes in the area and to the Pevensey Levels.”
The consultation period will run until Friday June 5 and provision has been made for local residents to give their views either at the exhibition, take away a form to complete and return by the Freepost service provided, comment online after the exhibition at www.battleroad-hailsham.co.uk, which will go live after the consultation, or call 0800 112 3540 to leave verbal feedback or request a feedback form and Freepost envelope. The project website will also feature copies of the information displayed at the consultation event should people be unable to attend the event but still want the opportunity to view and comment on the proposals.
