Planners reject 60-bed care home in Angmering

Arun District Council officers used their delegated powers to refuse outline planning permission for the development at Broadlees, between Dappers Lane and Water Lane.

Angmering Parish Council and the Save Angmering Village campaign group objected to the plans, and eight villagers also wrote letters of opposition. Concerns were voiced about flood risk, increased traffic, impact on the South Downs National Park and the ‘excessive’ density of building, if the scheme went ahead.

The Arun Access Group, which campaigns for disabled people, objected on the ground that the site was ‘entirely unsuitable’ as it was in a ‘remote’ location and it was ‘highly unlikely’ the majority of residents would be unable to walk to the nearest shops and facilities.

Among the reasons Arun planning officers refused planning permission were the site being in an ‘unsustainable location outside the built-up area, the 27 single-storey ‘cottages’ would ‘constitute a cramped form of residential development’ and the developers failure to offer money for affordable homes or community infrastructure.
