Plans for store site when Rustington Sainsbury's leaves

THE owner of the former Focus DIY store at Rustington, currently being used as a temporary supermarket by Sainsbury's while its new superstore is under construction, is seeking permission to vary the range of goods sold on the site, should it be rebuilt.

Store Property Investments Ltd, which owns the Rustington Retail Park at New Road, was given planning approval in 2011 to demolish the Focus premises and build three new retail units on the site. At the time Arun District Council imposed a condition restricting the range of goods which could be sold in the new units to housewares such as furniture and floor coverings, decorating products, pet supplies, gardening products, cycles and cycling accessories and car parts and accessories, among others.

A letter submitted to Arun with the new planning application asks for items including boating, camping and caravanning products to be added to the list.
