Plans for travellers' sites across Arun revealed

PLANS for permanent sites for travellers across Arun have been revealed.

The district council must provide 14 new pitches by 2016, including nine by 2011, to meet Government requirements.

Sites in Eastergate, Findon, Patching, Rustington, Westergate, Barnham and north of the A259 at Ferring have been pinpointed in a shortlist recommended by Baker Associates, following a study.

And a layby on the A27 near Angmering has been suggested as an emergency stopping place for travellers.

A back-up list of areas considered to be worth further investigation includes spots in Arundel, Bognor, Crossbush, Clymping, Wick, Patching and Walberton.

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert said: "I don't see why travellers should be treated any differently from other people who are waiting for affordable homes when it comes to the provision of land."
