Plans submitted for 41 foot phone mast in Seaford

Plans have been announced to build a 41-foot telephone mast next to the Buckle Bypass in Seaford.

A planning application has been submitted to Lewes District Council by Vodafone and Telefonica for the 12.5m telecommunications mast with three antenna and two equipment cabinets.

While the installation of a new telephone mast will be welcomed by many Vodafone and 02 customers who experience service problems in Seaford, a number of residents have already expressed concerns about its height and prominent location.

However, the most controversial thing about the planning application so far has been the location of the council’s notice informing residents of the application.

An A4 sheet of paper was attached to a tree near to the proposed site of installation, not visible from the nearby footpath and inaccessible to people who were unable to walk up the grassy hill.

Seaford Town Council, in its response to the application, has no objection but stated: “It was commented that the notice for the application was small and hidden and the committee would like to suggest that it be re-positioned in a more prominent place.”

A spokesperson for Lewes District Council said: “Lewes District Council is aware that the location of the proposed phone mast by the Buckle Bypass makes it difficult for people to view the planning notice.

“We have therefore placed additional notices closer to the residential area.

“If people wish to comment on this planning application LW/16/0185 they can do so until April 21, 2016.”
