Plans to convert Barnham Windmill approved

Planning approval has been given to convert Barnham Windmill into four flats.

Arun District Council has agreed to the proposals for the 1829 structure by its owner, Barry Lee.

He applied in February 2007 for the scheme to be given the go ahead. But the backing was received this monthonly after revised plans regarding the site access and layout were drawn up.

The council has also imposed 18 conditions on the approval to govern the way the work is carried out. It has also given the associated listed building consent for the conversion.

An attempt in 1990 to build housing around the Yapton Road site prompted a rescue bid which led to Mr Lee buying it in the mid-1990s to restore it. But a row about parking for the site finally killed his ambitions in 2005.
