Pevensey Bay Post Office is to be moved from its current location and into an existing shop 50m away to offer customers a new-style open-plan branch with extended opening hours.

The relocation to 1066 Convenience Store, 12 Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay, – will take place after Christmas and is 50 metres from the current branch.

The current branch will close at 4 Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay, at 5.30pm on January 9 with the Post Office opening the following day (January 10) at 1pm in its new location.

During the short period of closure the nearest alternative office is The Crumbles Post Office, Asda, Pevensey Bay Road, in Eastbourne.

Post Office Regional Network Manager – South, Will Russell, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Pevensey Bay and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches. This investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Opening hours at the new location will be Monday to Sunday, 6am to 10pm. This is an extra 75 hours a week to access Post Office products and services. The extra hours will include Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. There will also be earlier opening hours and later closing times every day and will see the end of lunchtime closing. Work will now take place to add the Post Office into the existing shop.
