Plaudits for students

CUPS and awards in memory of former pupils at Steyning Grammar School were awarded to sixth-formers at an annual memorial assembly on Tuesday.

The Gary Reeve Memorial Cup went to Gary Elliott for outstanding achievement, the Tim Roberts Memorial Cup went to Philip Bacon for sporting achievement and the Paul Holt

Memorial Sculpture was awarded to Dipesha Sharman for achievement in art.

The sixth-formers also heard a review of the year at the drama hall assembly and watched several cheque presentations to charities from the head boy and head girl, deputy head boy and deputy head girl, money which was raised in different ways by the sixth-formers for chosen charities.

A video presentation on sixth-form life in 2004/05, produced by Tom Packer, was also shown.

The sixth form raised 1,500 for Comic Relief from Red Nose day activities, 7,000 for Cancer Research UK from its annual jail-break, 587 for Southern FM's Help a Local Child appeal, 1,400 for the West Sussex tsunami project and 100 for the Toybox charity.
