Play area closed

A CHILDREN'S playground in Southwick has been forced to close after youths held a drunken late-night party in it on Saturday.

Adur Watch inspectors found the playground at Southwick Recreation Ground in a dangerous state when they went to inspect the park on Sunday morning.

Broken glass from bottles was found in the sandpit and other damage was done to the play equipment.

Adur District Council will now have to replace the sand in the sandpit and the play equipment will have to be repaired.

While the park is closed, the playground and equipment will be painted. The park is expected to reopen on Monday.

Adur Watch manager Clive Bramble said: "We are always pleased to see our sites well used by the correct age groups, but, in this case, the vandalism and smashed glass left us with no option but to close the play area.

"Some good will come out of the closure, as our colleagues in building works will be painting the equipment while the site is closed."
