Play park for Pebsham young

It's hard to imagine anyone had more fun this weekend than the youngsters who helped launch the new play park at Seabourne Road recreation ground.

Having gathered for an official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony performed by 11 year old Jade Prince, they all queued up to have a go on the zip wire which stretches across the gentle slope, as well as testing the Neos interactive electronic games panel, the pendulum basket swing, and cross-scale teeter totter. There is also a new sheltered seating area for older children - the park is aimed specifically at eight to 13 year olds.

Rother Councillor Charlie Clark said: "I am absolutely thrilled to have achieved something for the young people of Pebsham. This was the result of a local action plan and consultation between the residents and children who personally chose the equipment and proves Rother does have a true committment to the young people in the district."

Twelve year old Joseph Taylor, of London Road, said of the new zip wire: "It's cool - especially when you jump on it and your mates push you along."

Of the new play park he added: "This will make a difference because everybody can have a good time, and everybody will be happy they don't have to go into the other park, because it was getting boring."

The launch featured other activites such as arts and crafts with Liz Bates and her team from Action In Rural Sussex, and a picture competition to design a new sign for the play park which was announced by PC Jason Kemp.
