Playden

Congratulations must be expressed to the Rye Bonfire boys for their excellent organisation of the procession and fireworks. And especially for their clean-up operations. Rye looked very clean and tidy early on Sunday morning. Thank you to all concerned.

Today it is much more like Thomas Hood’s poem about November. It is cold, grey, drizzly, no colour, no birds, no brightness anywhere. No wonder creatures hibernate.

Come and Dine and Guess who Done it !! Friends of Playden Church have an event planned for you on Saturday 23rd November at 7.30 pm in the Playden W. I. Hall. A play will be presented with all the clues to solve the mystery of who committed the Murder. A delicious two - course supper will be provided during the evening. You need to bring your own chosen drink and glasses. The tickets are £10 for the evening. Booking is ESSENTIAL to help with catering numbers. If you are able to join us, please phone 01797 22 26 15.

You may have one or two items which you could donate to the bric-a-brac stall at St. Michael’s Christmas sale, which is to be held in the church on Saturday 30th November, 11 am to 1 pm. There will also be cakes, plants, books, and gifts and crafts, and a raffle.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has two events planned for tomorrow, Saturday 16th. The first is The Rother Ramble. Meet in Rye for a stroll along the River Rother to Camber, buy lunch in the pub or bring a packed lunch, then get the bus back to Rye.

The second is an evening talk by Mr. Melvin Smith called “Along the River” at 7.30 pm in the Winchelsea Beach Community Hall. He will show some of his best photos of wildlife near his home in Wittersham. This is open to all and donations would be appreciated.

On Sunday 17th, there is a chance to get to grips with a good variety of winter visitors: wildfowl, waders, finches and raptors. Meet at Rye Harbour car park at 10.30 returning about 1pm, having walked 3 miles. Donations would be appreciated.

Rye and District Camera Club will be at Playden W. I. Hall on Monday evening at 7.30 pm, when Alan Lomakin will explain “What the KCPA does for us.”

Next weekend the Annual Art Exhibition by members of ARRCC will be on show at the School Creative Centre, New Road, (Freda Gardham to us oldies). It will be opened by the Mayor of Rye, Cllr Shaun Rogers at 3 pm on Friday and open again on Saturday from 10am to 4 pm.

If you are even beginning to think about Christmas Cards, do remember that the Charity Card Shop is open in the Community Centre on Conduit Hill, Rye from 10 am to 4 pm every Tuesday through to Saturday. Very many charities are represented there.

The Iden and District Natural History Society has the next Winter Lecture on Friday 22nd November at 7.30 pm in the village hall, when Jenny Wilshire will shoe pictures of “Flowers of Crete.” All are welcome, visitors pay £3 admission.

We understand that our vicar is now at home following surgery. We send our very best wishes for her recovery, and hope that she feels a little bit better.

There will be a service of Parish Communion at 11 am on Sunday, the second Sunday before Advent.
